This coming weekend, Conwy Beekeepers will be setting up a stand at the beautiful Bodnant Garden for their Pollinators Weekend.
While it’s a relaxed weekend rather than our biggest event of the year, it represents a vital public outreach opportunity. It gives us a fantastic platform to chat with the local community, share our passion, and educate visitors on the current environmental challenges facing our bees and other vital pollinators.
What We’re Showcasing
We have a brilliant mix of interactive, live, and educational features on our stall this year:
- The Observation Hive: Back by popular demand! Always a massive hit with families, helping people safely view a live colony and spot the queen is one of the absolute best ways to spark a lifelong interest in bees.
- Our Brand New 3D Printed Educational Models: A fantastic new tool that lets the public examine bee anatomy up close in a completely accessible way.
- Children’s Bee Quiz: A fun, engaging quiz to get the kids thinking about pollinators (and keeping them occupied while we chat with parents!).
- The Asian Hornet Threat Campaign: An essential piece of public outreach. We will be raising critical awareness about the threat of the Yellow-legged Asian Hornet (Vespa velutina), teaching visitors how to spot them, and explaining how to report sightings.
- Honey Sales: Showcasing and selling a wonderful variety of local Conwy honey.
We Need Volunteers!
To make this outreach a success, we need a few friendly faces to help man the stand in shifts over Saturday and Sunday.
Whether you are a seasoned keeper or a beginner who just joined us this season, your voice is incredibly valuable. You don’t need to be an expert to help out—simply sharing your enthusiasm, helping manage the crowd around the observation hive, or handing out quiz sheets makes a huge difference. Even a couple of hours of your time is a massive help!
